After investing in its Australian manufacturing and fabrication capability, NESMA member EIRE Technology has continued to expand, including relocating its NSW operation to a facility three times larger to accommodate demand.
The expansion reflects increasing investment in critical infrastructure, particularly data centres, mining, energy, and industrial facilities, alongside growing demand for Australian-manufactured switchboards that comply with AS/NZS 61439.
Headquartered in Ravenhall, Victoria, with a switchboard manufacturing facility in Gregory Hills, NSW, EIRE Technology designs and manufactures switchboards, motor control centres (MCCs) and containerised switchrooms, and delivers projects end to end – from engineering and design through to installation and commissioning. Recent projects include containerised switchrooms for EnergyAustralia’s Yallourn Mine in Victoria and Weir Minerals in NSW, and electrical infrastructure for GrainCorp in Queensland.
“We moved from about 380 square metres to 1200 in NSW and it already feels too small!” says Peter Sultana, Operations Manager – NSW, EIRE Technology.
“We’ve added new CNC machinery to streamline manufacturing and deliver consistent quality for our customers,” he adds.
“As a licensed VeCab™ modular switchboard assembler, we handle our own metalwork and manufacturing locally, so it was a natural fit for us.”
VeCab™ is an Australian-designed modular switchboard system that allows electrical switchboards to be configured to suit different applications and technical requirements. As a licensed assembler, EIRE Technology combines this system with its own local engineering, metalwork, and manufacturing capabilities.
The VeCab™ partnership gives EIRE Technology greater control over its local manufacturing and fabrication processes, enabling the company to deliver high-quality engineered switchboard solutions while responding quickly to customer requirements. It also provides the flexibility to undertake additional testing where necessary to meet clients’ specific technical and compliance requirements.
“Data centres have demanding requirements for high-spec switchboards, and are always looking for speed, capacity, reliability, and quality. Our new facility is set up to deliver this capability locally.”
Support from V2
EIRE Technology credits the VeCab™ modular switchboard system from V2 with supporting its growth and providing technical assistance with new testing and development.
EIRE Technology is undertaking additional testing of high-current VeCab™ switchboard configurations, extending the capability it can build and verify locally for large data centre installations.
Growing demand for Australian-manufactured switchboards
Peter and the EIRE Technology team are seeing an increase in companies wanting Australian manufactured switchboards, and they believe this is a big driver for the company’s growth.
“In addition to an increased demand for Australian-manufactured switchboards, for most customers, the only switchboards they’ll accept now are those compliant with AS/NZS 61439. To help keep our customers compliant, as a company, that’s all we offer,” says Peter.
Peter says customers are increasingly looking for shorter lead times, local technical support and confidence that products have been designed and manufactured to Australian requirements.
Peter believes this reflects a broader shift across industry, with customers increasingly prioritising locally manufactured, fully compliant switchboards that offer greater confidence in quality, supply and long-term support.
“NESMA has been useful for us to keep up with the state of the market, as well as updates to State rules and national Standards.”
“It helps us stay informed, and we can better plan where we need to be in the months and years ahead. We can network with industry peers and learn about the impacts of AI on manufacturing and engineering, how wiring rules vary by State, or the latest ways to overcome skilled labour shortages.”
Further expansion
With demand continuing to grow, EIRE Technology is already planning the next stage of its expansion, by exploring the Queensland market, where it is already working on projects, but servicing them from Victoria and NSW.
EIRE Technology Managing Director, David O’Gorman, says that it’s all about finding the right people. “NSW has been a great success, but I’m not going to rush into Queensland – I want to get it right. It’s a growing area, with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games driving ongoing infrastructure investment.”
As investment continues across Australia’s energy, manufacturing and critical infrastructure sectors, EIRE Technology believes local manufacturing capability, quality and compliance will remain key competitive advantages for Australian switchboard manufacturers.
“Our goal has always been to build here, with the right people and the right partners. As EIRE Technology grows nationally, that commitment to Australian manufacturing goes with us. This is encapsulated in our company motto: where EIRE goes, prosperity follows,” says David O’Gorman.
